60 day voicemail frustration

By: andreww | 14-05-2013 16:26

A little known fact is that if you don't access your giffgaff voicemail for 60 days any customisation is lost (no pin, no personalised greeting etc) and you're not informed it has happened :smileysad:

If having gone to the trouble of setting these, to find if you did need to urgently check voicemail from another phone if would be very annoying to find you can't!

This is idea is very simple - once a PIN and/or a personalised greeting has been set - just leave it there without any time limits for it to be removed :smileywink:

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

This is giffgaff "feature" so frustrating.

So why do Giffgaff REFUSE to listen to 819 people who have voted to leave this silly "feature" active.

Giffgaff has around 6 million user accounts. If each one has to reset their voicemail password and settings (to get rid of that annoying message that won't go away) every 60 days. I just dod this and noted that it took me 4 minutes to go through the whole performance.

At 15p per minute, this cost me 60p. I need to do this approx 6 times per year. That is £3.60 extra revenue for Giffgaff.

Multiplied by 6 million, that is £21.6million per year. THIS IS WHY GIFFGAFF DOES NOT REMOVE THIS "FEATURE"

What can we do about it? (given Giffgaff are doing NOTHING)

  • Move to another supplier
  • Use social media to make others aware and so impact the number of current customers, plus warn-off some new propsects.
  • Update the Wikipedia article of Giffgaff about this scam
  • Got any other ideas?

This 60 day business is a great irritation to me - I have a GiffGaff account which I use for a charity I am secretary of, for which usage is sporadic. It's important to me that a custom voicemail message should be there. There are better things to do in life than trying to keep tabs on whether the number has been used in the last 60 days or not. Don't know when each 60 day period begins, or whether it is rolling. I don't believe GiffGaff even tell you it's going to happen.

If I decide to leave GiffGaff, this will be the main reason why.

One more little known fact I now know and an explanation why I get the please set up your voicemail message. I answer the majority of my calls, but it is very frustrating to have to reset it. As long as the phone is active why not keep the voicemail active or perhaps send a text asking you to confirm renewal of voicemail

I rarely receive voicemails on my giffgaff number, it isn't my main phone I had assumed it was my fault I couldn't make it work from another phone when I wanted to.

This seems stupid and a really bad idea. Many people don't use voicemail regularly.

This happened to my Dad who is not too tech savvy, he was trying to retrieve an important message and couldn't understand why the system would not accept his pin. Come on Giffgaff, please at least give a warning before you remove the customised settings.

Other providers don't have an issue with leaving personalized voicemail greetings on indefinitely, so why does giffgaff?

Well actually all providers which use the O2 network, such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, etc have this problem because they essentially use the same voicemail platform, with just a different voice announcing the prompts. It's an O2 issue which Giffgaff need to take up with them. We have been using O2 at work for the last couple of years and the personal greetings of most staff have disappeared and I think most of them aren't aware since, once you've set that up on any other network, it's not an issue. When I was with Orange I had the same voicemail greeting for years.

That's a good idea. Definitely worth considering.

THIS IS PURELY A MONEY MAKING FEATURE FOR GIFFGAFF.

OH SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT JUST COST ME 4 CALLS TO VOICEMAIL TO RESET MY PIN, PICK UP A MESSAGE (no useful content BTW), ONCE AGAIN TURN OFF THAT ANNOYING FEATURE THAT ADDS A NON-DELATABLE MESSAGE TO MY ANDROID PHONE, AND RESET MY VOICEMAIL... THAT MUST HAVE COST ME AT LEAST 60p.. MORELIKELY CLOSE TO £1.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIME TO LOOK AT OTHER SUPPLIERS I FEEL AND MOVE THE WHOLE FAMILY AWAY FROM GIFFGAFF.

(Yes, the capital letters indicate I AM SHOUTING!)

This is important for members to avoid losing faith in giffgaff. Voicemail settings, once set, should be retained until the account is closed when it hasn't been topped up for 6 months.
