Handling multiple SIMs from a single company/family account

By: ivida | 14-02-2010 02:10

This idea was brought up by several posts earlier (see 1,2) and Vincent has even posted

a partial solution, but apparently it hasn't yet made it to this page.

The proposal is to have the possiblity to handle more than one SIMs from

a single account. This would be useful for companies, families, couples

and any other groups, if handling of the SIMs' administration/finances

is performed by one person.

The point is not necessarily to have only a single account for the SIMs,

i understand that at the moment the system requires the creation of an

account for each SIM.

The point is much more to have the possibility to define a master account from

which you can access relevant settings of all the SIMs within the associated pool.

Not only to top-up (this is not a problem as you can top-up any number through

the giffgaff pages) but also to activate/inactivate  auto top-up or set speding limits, etc.

Another important aspect of a company/family pool os SIMs would be to handle the

credits more flexibly: to have the possibility to transfer credit from one SIM to

the other.  Tthere was some discussion about  implementing some form  of credit

transfere on giffgaff (1,2) - in my opinion company/family SIM pools would be a good

argument to push such a feature and also an excellent context for the development

and testing.

People sometimes accidentally topup the wrong account, or an old account.  If all their accounts could be linked and shown on a single dashboard that might help - or maybe cause more confusion?

On Google Chrome browser, if you let it store your passwords, the login page will show a list of your usernames so you can easily choose the right one.  Best to change the avatar on your dashboard, so that you can see more easily which account you are currently logged into.

Great suggestion...having four separate accounts for two mobiles and two cars is the one thing about giff gaff that really irritates.

This is a good idea.

However, as mentioned by Macphee70, this idea has been suggested many times before. You should search for an idea before submitting your own and show support.

My 2 children are on giffgaff, i have their log in details and keep an eye on their accounts (in fact my son at 12 has no access at all).  They never loose the ability to call me as they have their free giffgaff calls.  giff gaff is a great network for families for this reason.

Unfortunatley despite many people asking gg can't merge accounts together.  I view it in the longer term, my 16 year old will soon take over control of hers and start helping in the forums to earn payback, it would be inconvenient to now unlink it but this way she and I can have equal access

Multiple sim accounts have been suggested numerous times before

https://labs.giffgaff.com/idea/4660 (this is the original one from 2010 )

https://labs.giffgaff.com/idea/16350105

Why not do a search before submitting your idea as there is a chance that someone else may have already had the same idea to you and already suggested it.  In this case they have, why not show your support to these ideas instead.

Thanks and good luck with your next idea

You can already have multiple SIMs, each with a completely separate account and separate number.  This gives you maximum flexibility to have a separate goodybag, with different renewal dates, or to run one SIM on PAYG until you are next going to need it.

You can also set up a hotspot on your phone to tether a tablet or laptop.  (Beware that it is very easy to get through 100MB or more per day even without using any video or receiving any Microsoft Updates.)  Unlimited data goodybags cannot be used for this, but most goodybags have limited data now.

Bluetooth handsfree kits for cars can be used to answer two phones on one kit.  This has the advantage that you won't get interrupted by a second call while speaking on the first.

Giffgaff is not designed to be a business service, for which you would pay a lot more.  However there are quite a lot of things you can do with phone diverts if you use a little imagination.
