Handling multiple SIMs from a single company/family account

By: ivida | 14-02-2010 02:10

This idea was brought up by several posts earlier (see 1,2) and Vincent has even posted

a partial solution, but apparently it hasn't yet made it to this page.

The proposal is to have the possiblity to handle more than one SIMs from

a single account. This would be useful for companies, families, couples

and any other groups, if handling of the SIMs' administration/finances

is performed by one person.

The point is not necessarily to have only a single account for the SIMs,

i understand that at the moment the system requires the creation of an

account for each SIM.

The point is much more to have the possibility to define a master account from

which you can access relevant settings of all the SIMs within the associated pool.

Not only to top-up (this is not a problem as you can top-up any number through

the giffgaff pages) but also to activate/inactivate  auto top-up or set speding limits, etc.

Another important aspect of a company/family pool os SIMs would be to handle the

credits more flexibly: to have the possibility to transfer credit from one SIM to

the other.  Tthere was some discussion about  implementing some form  of credit

transfere on giffgaff (1,2) - in my opinion company/family SIM pools would be a good

argument to push such a feature and also an excellent context for the development

and testing.

I suggested a similar idea although yours is much more eloquent. If this gets me my multi SIM you have my vote

Hiya, yes it would be a good one, but this has been mentioned many times before as far as i'am aware gg are looking into it.

I think this would be a good idea. I have 3 accounts already (with a 4th coming soon) and it would be easier if they could be pooled together.

This is a great idea.  It would also be great if it included billing for multiple SIM cards, so potentially only a single payment gets taken each month for all the phones on the account.

Great idea. When fixing my friend up with a GiffGaff SIM, the only way I can (cos he doesn't have internet access) I can set him up is with a new separate account. It would (have) be so much eaiser if I could just add his sim to my own account.

yes. Good idea. I support fulheartedly.

As @Pinkcalculator mentioned, this idea has come up often. I would very much like to see it get the support it needs and to finally be implemented. This would be very handy for me and many other families. :) I also hope that the new Lithium system makes it easier to implement.

It was talked about some time ago and has been a frequent idea on the ideas board for a long time

Surfacing again here weird Ideas Community board attitude totally switched me off Giff Gaff. Joke Idea Search capability means that it is close to impossible to find examples of your idea. This should be a part of the ideas submission process But weirdly this particular idea has a lot of support but is never delivered on. A great ideas board would let us discover WHY????

This would mean that the whole system was open to massive abuse. We could be handing out a second sim to anyone and using whatever they liked all for the cost of 1 goodybag. They dont allow you to all share your food at an 'all you can eat 'restaurant, they make everyone pay individually.

I suspect that 5087 - in the comment below - has misunderstood the original suggestion.  A dual SIM phone is fine for two separate phone-numbers, from the same or different network providers (eg "work" and "personal").

I think the original request was whether it would be possible to have two separate giffgaff numbers - one for mobile and one for tablet/iPad - which were both funded or "fed" from the same giffgaff account so that both these numbers could draw on the same goodybag or credit allowance.

(It goes without saying, of course, that you can't have one number installed and operating on two separate devices)

I suspect that funding two separate numbers/devices from one single account would be very difficult for giffgaff to program and administer.  In any case, there would be no saving for the user anyway:  the charges and usage would be the same whether debited to one goodybag in one account, or two separate goodybags/accounts.
