Handling multiple SIMs from a single company/family account

By: ivida | 14-02-2010 02:10

This idea was brought up by several posts earlier (see 1,2) and Vincent has even posted

a partial solution, but apparently it hasn't yet made it to this page.

The proposal is to have the possiblity to handle more than one SIMs from

a single account. This would be useful for companies, families, couples

and any other groups, if handling of the SIMs' administration/finances

is performed by one person.

The point is not necessarily to have only a single account for the SIMs,

i understand that at the moment the system requires the creation of an

account for each SIM.

The point is much more to have the possibility to define a master account from

which you can access relevant settings of all the SIMs within the associated pool.

Not only to top-up (this is not a problem as you can top-up any number through

the giffgaff pages) but also to activate/inactivate auto top-up or set speding limits, etc.

Another important aspect of a company/family pool os SIMs would be to handle the

credits more flexibly: to have the possibility to transfer credit from one SIM to

the other. Tthere was some discussion about implementing some form of credit

transfere on giffgaff (1,2) - in my opinion company/family SIM pools would be a good

argument to push such a feature and also an excellent context for the development

and testing.

Please search for and support existing ideas rather than posting yet another duplicate even further diluting any support and reducing the chances of success, just one existing idea:

Having 3 of us now on Giff Gaff I would find this option very helpful - you have my vote definitely

A quick search would have revealed that this idea has been proposed a number of times before.

You might not be aware, but it's better to upvote existing ideas rather than open new ideas that are duplicates. Giffgaff looks at ideas with lots of upvotes (you're looking at 50+ required) when it decides what to implement. Creating a new idea that's a duplicate of an old one actually decreases the chance of either idea getting implemented, as the upvotes will end up getting split between the two.

Hey all, just a quick note to let you know about some progress on our investigation of this idea. We're going to be adding a few questions around this into our daily survey that goes out to a random sampling of our members so don't be surprised if you see a few comments about this on the community at large.

The 700+ votes here definitely makes a strong case for this idea to be implemented so will keep you updated on any further progress being made on making this a reality.

To be honest, I'm surprised this hasn't gained much traction. There's a few ideas submitted on here that ask for you to be able to top-up/manage Goodybags on several SIMs but I think this is seperate and a much better idea.

Myself and my fiance both currently have contracts with Three (moving the finace over to giffgaff in a few weeks), hers is on the old 'One Plan' with unlimited tethering mine has 'All-you-can-eat data' with only 2GB of tethering. My fiance never uses tethering and I use my limit each month. My usage is usually high and my fiance's varies quiter significantly from month to month. It'd be much easier if I could pay for a large bundle that covers both of our usage.

I looked at the EE Sharer Plan and probably would have gone for it if it didn't require you to have at least one of their crippled, locked down phones which they never update! I'm happy with my OnePlus Two and the unlocked iPhone 6S that I got from giffgaff!

With a lot of devices now being able to take a SIM card but might only be used infrequently I think this is a great idea and means giffgaff can make additional revenue from the SIM cards without having to provide anything extra. I'm thinking of devices like my PSVITA which has a 3G modem in it. Most of the time I have Wi-Fi and yes I can tether, but that wil drain the battery, it's just much easier for that device to have it's own SIM and run under it's own steam. My usage of the PSVITA away from Wi-Fi however, does not justify me paying £5 or £10 a month for a gigabag especially for only 500MB of data. But I'd be more than happy to pay £1/2 a month for a SIM that will just use a bit of my goodybag as and when it needs it.

i pay for four accounts for family members, all with differnt goodybags. ONE acount with all mambers listed with thier goodybag next to the name would make life soooo much easier.

i would avoid doing like i have just done, paying two months of goodybags on an old account thats not been used since 2013!!
