Handling multiple SIMs from a single company/family account

By: ivida | 14-02-2010 02:10

This idea was brought up by several posts earlier (see 1,2) and Vincent has even posted

a partial solution, but apparently it hasn't yet made it to this page.

The proposal is to have the possiblity to handle more than one SIMs from

a single account. This would be useful for companies, families, couples

and any other groups, if handling of the SIMs' administration/finances

is performed by one person.

The point is not necessarily to have only a single account for the SIMs,

i understand that at the moment the system requires the creation of an

account for each SIM.

The point is much more to have the possibility to define a master account from

which you can access relevant settings of all the SIMs within the associated pool.

Not only to top-up (this is not a problem as you can top-up any number through

the giffgaff pages) but also to activate/inactivate auto top-up or set speding limits, etc.

Another important aspect of a company/family pool os SIMs would be to handle the

credits more flexibly: to have the possibility to transfer credit from one SIM to

the other. Tthere was some discussion about implementing some form of credit

transfere on giffgaff (1,2) - in my opinion company/family SIM pools would be a good

argument to push such a feature and also an excellent context for the development

and testing.

A short update: We are definitely looking into shared accounts, however, the shared usage moves away from the simplicity that giffgaff strives for. Your support and vote will help towards implementing this idea. Keep up sharing those shiny ideas with us.

I don't think we would be loosing simplicity just the opposite, so many of us have multiple SIMs it would make it far easier to manage them.

You've made it confusing already. I created a single account for my daughters SIM, I then clicked order another SIM, thinking it would tie it into my account for my son. It wasn't until activation and having to chat with your support, I discovered multiple accounts are needed. Why would it make it complex having a single account with multiple SIMs. During activation, offer to tie it to the same account, otherwise ask them to create a new account. This isn't complex. Shame really.

Yes please. As parent of 4 teenagers, each on Giffgaff, with me holding the purse strings, I do find it a pain that I cannot manage them together. Hubby & I wish to join gg too but I’m running out of email addresses....(I’d also like the bank statement entry to be coded in a way to remind me which phone it relates to.)

Please! I can't remember 5 logins, which phone renews when and trying to sort my dad's card out when pointed to his email was a nightmare. I need to be able to manage 5 sims from a single login, add nicknames so I know whose is whose and pay with a single card. Being able to transfer unused data between sims would be a bonus as would consolidating the renewals to one day a month

this idea is perfect... it would make things so much easier to handle if one person can just deal with the finances.

When you see posts about this subject going back years if doesn't inspire much faith that anything is seriously happening. The billing system seems to manage to instantly stop calls when there is no credit, pity other things can't happen as fast.

Never mind all the credit transfer and bells and whistles as a first step it would just be nice to have an administrative account that can sit above multiple sim accounts allowing easy access between them, via one log in page.

This idea was submitted at the beginning of 2010 people! Still giffgaff have done nothing about it.

This idea is so old that my kids have now grown up and would need to have their own accounts anyway now they are over 18 (although I still seem to be paying them!! :-) ) This idea must also have about the most votes for an idea so it makes a mockery of the "mobile network run by you" and any concept of giffgaff listening to us when some ideas which have been implemented have only received 200 or so votes.

My family have been with giffgaff since 2009 because is really is the best mobile network and this would have been a very useful facility provided you let certain numbers split off to their own account if the administrator wanted that. I expect that is the one reason this has not happened. Same reason you can't change your account name - badly written accounts software that uses the name as the account ID rather than an account number! It's one of those facilities - like being able to pay by direct debit - that are important and almost essential features that never get implemented despite so many people needing/wanting it. Sometimes you have to wonder what on earth giffgaff think they are doing.

Come on guys, sort this out finally. It's too late for my family but would help others as well as small businesses.

Yes would be great to log in only once to manage our 4 family accounts, for example when updating payment cards. Also to share data allowances with other family members would be very useful.
