Handling multiple SIMs from a single company/family account

By: ivida | 14-02-2010 02:10

This idea was brought up by several posts earlier (see 1,2) and Vincent has even posted

a partial solution, but apparently it hasn't yet made it to this page.

The proposal is to have the possiblity to handle more than one SIMs from

a single account. This would be useful for companies, families, couples

and any other groups, if handling of the SIMs' administration/finances

is performed by one person.

The point is not necessarily to have only a single account for the SIMs,

i understand that at the moment the system requires the creation of an

account for each SIM.

The point is much more to have the possibility to define a master account from

which you can access relevant settings of all the SIMs within the associated pool.

Not only to top-up (this is not a problem as you can top-up any number through

the giffgaff pages) but also to activate/inactivate auto top-up or set speding limits, etc.

Another important aspect of a company/family pool os SIMs would be to handle the

credits more flexibly: to have the possibility to transfer credit from one SIM to

the other. Tthere was some discussion about implementing some form of credit

transfere on giffgaff (1,2) - in my opinion company/family SIM pools would be a good

argument to push such a feature and also an excellent context for the development

and testing.

I will support this 100% because I used to have 3 sims only contract from Tesco mobile for myself, my son and daughter in which I was the main account administrator.

All the payment comes out of my account and it was a lot easier to maintain.

we also got family pecks for having multiple sim only contracts.

Giffgaff should listen to their customers because we are the most important people who are patronising this mobile company.

You could have a scenario where if under a single account controller there were say 3 or 4 SIMs on recurring goodybags (eg controller's personal SIM, controller's work SIM, partner's SIM and Child's SIM) an extra block of data could be bought each month to top up any SIM card which ran out of data before renewal.

The sooner this idea comes to be implemented the better. I have a dual SIM Phone and it is a constant irritation having to have two IDs to manage the two cards. I also manage my wife's card and would much prefer to do this through a single ID.

I’d like to be able to have a matching SIM card for my ipad air with the same number as my phone.

So in other words a duplicate sim. It would be annoying to have to pay for 2 separate accounts... both for me!

Unfortunately, I believe having two SIMs with the same number is illegal … I have more than one SIM; each has their own number, account, and separate device.

Would be a great idea cause I want to transfer my old number over to giffgaff for to use in my new phone. But still keeping my old number and phone to one account and user name.. With giffgaff

You can already have multiple accounts with giffgaff: one for each telephone number. Each of your usernames is the unique identifier for your PHONE NUMBER, and stays with the giffgaff SIM when the number from a different network is transferred over to your giffgaff SIM. If you need help, go to the main Community Help & Support pages (link through the FEEDBACK button along the right side of this page).

to be honest I thought you could run multiple accounts from one source or account

This would make more sense

Data transfer between family members would be good

At the moment I have a SIM for me and my partner but plan on growing the account to children and grandchildren
