Realign payback seasons so that the Christmas payout comes in November

By: harrrrrry | 10-04-2019 09:49

Currently payback seasons run from December to May and June to November. Actual payback is paid out in the next following month, so payback is actually paid towards the end of December and January

One of the supposed benefits of having a 6 month season is that accumulating payback allows the member to use the payment for something more significant than they could otherwise achieve with individual monthly payments. However, this breaks down because probably one of their biggest meeds would be to help with the Christmas season. A payment in late December is too late to help much for that.

Consequently I'm suggesting:

  • that for 2019 only, the second payback season be reduced to 5 months, ie June to October, allowing final payout by the end of November
  • for 2020 and subsequent years, payback becomes November to April (with actual payback towards the end of May and November).

In addition to helping members, I suspect this will also help staff and agents, as December and the New Year are probably busy times for them. It will also mean that if circumstances force a delayed payment (as happened in 2018) it will be seen as less of a catastrophy for those that were relying on a payout in time for Christmas.

I can understand your reasoning, and in theory would support it, although there are quite a few conversations around peripherals which would need discussion.

of course it is now too late for 2019, but it might be possible for a differing timeframe. Personally, I don’t depend on it as a source of funding for Christmas, and I see it as a bonus, rather than an ‘entitlement’ even though it is much appreciated!

I help when and where I can, and try to be fair and encouraging to all. There are some who suggest that certain areas are more important than others, but as people ask for help in all areas, to restrict oneself to only ever looking in H&S would deny some help. ????

Whilst I'm not that bothered myself if it helps other members it gets my vote, though for 2020 now. Not sure what the disadvantage would be to giffgaff or members by not making the change

YES.

I Support this idea.

giffgaff staff work hard to process the payments for members. They are given tight deadlines. More time is needed to allow for potential issues to be taken into account.

December is always going to be a difficult month. More staff are off sick. Also Christmas is stressful enough, it's supposed to be a pleasant event.

Changing Payback months should help everyone.

Fully supported. It should reduce the number of posts from frustrated members for the Winter payout, if it's delayed, as it's not too close to Christmas.

It doesn't matter to me personally when payback is paid out but I support this idea as it is so important to some and I can't see any negatives to this idea.

I fully endorse this idea of moving to November and May. Personally it doesn't matter to me, but it obviously does matter to some members, so why not move it?
