Pin giffgaff staff lab comments at top

By: bertiebat | 08-03-2019 03:37

Pin giffgaff staff comments to the top of the comments in Lab ideas.

When a comment is made by a giffgaff staff member it is much more important to note than the many (often pointless) comments which soon demote these staff/ change of status comments so they aren't noticed.

Would take away a small amount of the frustrations of scrolling through the more mindless comments to get to see if giffgaff has updated the idea with a comment

This shouldn't be too difficult to do as there is already a mechanism to upvote comments which promotes them to the top comments.

PS. Edit with an example of recent idea which has had a staff comment https://labs.giffgaff.com/idea/16712751/encourage-users-to-buy-goodybags-without-adding-credit-first  No doubt it will get buried soon.

Not supported - meaningful updates should be communicated to members when status changes (i.e. New idea > We're looking into it > Working on it) - maybe add these as a note at the top/bottom of the idea with a clear indication that it's a staff response.

Comments on an idea should remain as they are - simply member (and staff in some cases) discussions on an idea.

Edit: You also have the drop down sorting option which allows you to show 'Staff comments' only, so this is entirely unnecessary.

I'm not sure you have understood the idea as I'm actually suggesting that the status change comment is stickied at the top which you have agreed is a good idea?

I think I have - it would be clearer if meaningful updates were added to either the top or bottom of the post itself rather than the comments section. As it stands, comments can be filtered to show "Staff comments" only, so it's very easy for forum users to filter out all comments made by members as opposed to staff.

My point is that meaningful updates should be highlighted properly. The easiest way to actually do this technically is to use the existing comments facility and sticky status changes/staff comments at the top of the comments. Idea status updates are actually communicated via the notifications but the corresponding reason for the change comment soon gets buried by normal comments. Yes you can see the staff comments via the sort but how many even realise you can do this? I just thing this would really be useful and not overly complicated to do it in the way I have suggested.

Definitely agree on this front. Your idea would be the easiest to implement; though I still think meaningful comments should be appended to the original idea (formatted accordingly - maybe bold text/in a box). Although I don't consider this idea the best way of bringing more visibility to meaningful updates, it would be a step in the right direction.

These are most important comments so it does make sense to keep them on the top. Good recommendation.
