Royal Mail Special Delivery replacement sim option trial

At present, if you report your phone or sim lost/stolen, giffgaff put a block on your sim and then post out a new sim. Only this replacement sim can be activated back onto your account. The replacement sim can take a couple of days to arrive. This can be frustrating and inconvenient for the giffgaff member, as they must wait for the sim to arrive.

I would like to suggest that giffgaff consider trialling the option for a giffgaff member to chose a paid for Premium Sim Replacement Service.

Could use the strapline, "get your giffy in a Jiffy"

The Premium Sim Replacement Service would be optional and require the giffgaff member to pay a fee from airtime credit or a stored credit/debit card. The Premium Sim Replacement Service would use Royal Mail's Next Day before 1pm service. The charge would cover the cost of postage which at present would be in the region of £6.50.

I agree not all people would wish to pay this fee but many might to get their phone back up and running as for some, their phone is their business.

If giffgaff were able to offer a trial on this, then they could gauge support and interest and potentially roll it on a permanent basis.

as much as this is a great idea for getting a replacement sim the next day. It would also mean that the giff gaffer would need to be in to sign for their sim as the special delivery by 1pm service has to be signed for by that person or someone at that address. Posties aren’t allowed to ask neighbours to sign for this service or Leave it in a safe place.

So this could result in the giff gaffer not getting their SIM card replacement until the following day if they aren’t in (48 hours after the order) and having to go a collect it or order a redelivery which is an addition of anther few day

good concept but like a previous comment says you can just buy from local shop alot quicker and change it over the same day

not that appealing, how ma times do you lose your phone hmmm and why wait for a new SIM card if you can purchase one from the corner shop for a pound and do a swap sim, then you will have your number swapped to the new sim in minutes or as mentioned in a jiffy

I agree with the option of special delivery but we only need to consider how long the processing take for the conversion to the new sim. Currently we advise it can take up to 24hrs for full and I would assume that the process at giffgaff end is pretty quick and automated probably but then again when the member activates, can still take up to 24hrs albeit yuckier in most cases anyway. But yes I support this.

Picking a sim for a pound though to do a sim swap is still a far quicker and efficient route for those who can do it themselves. I always advise that route first.
