The Colony App (working title)

Okay so, this was originally an answer to the D&AD brief set by giffgaff for 2018 but i decided to make something that answers this brief myself!

The brief set asked for a physical or digital experience that embodies the core belief of giffgaff, 'Mutual Giving'.

After doing much research and scrapping many ideas (such is the graphic design life) I finally developed the final concept!

"Colony" is an app that sets itself apart from other companies solutions to a 'rewards app'.

This app is a platform that you can link to your giffgaff account and make a customised character, the main use of the app however is that you will have a list of events all charity based be it a local band or bake sale.

The events will be sponsored by giffgaff, you will be able to click on any event to find its location and more details such as pricing and what charity is being supported, you can set reminders for the events where giffgaff will message you.

Now here's the kicker!

Every giffer that goes to the even will receive some points as a thanks for going, any and all purchases made and the event goes to the supported charity and you are gifted points back into your account (this will be done with linking the app to something like PayPal).

Colony will also support a proximity feature where whenever you pass another user of the app you will "collect" them and can add them as a friend in future, the benefit of having friend on this app is that once a day you can send a gift to them on the friends page, these gifts will include small offers such as vouchers or kudos to your account, you can however only hold a maximum of 6 gifts at any time but redeem vouchers whenever.

So going to an event (these will be publicly open BTW) will fill up your friends list and not only will you be supporting local talent and a charity you are being rewarded for doing so and the points you gain can be given to charity on the payback roll therefore giving double!!

If that's not Mutual Giving I don't know what is!

tl:dr it's an app for charity events that you get points for showing up!

This sounds far too complicated and expensive. Also it doesn't interest me at all.

I think it would cost far too much for it's usefulness.

Definitely

Would have to take a closer look on how it adds value.

I'd like to reiterate that this whole idea is in response the a brief set BY giffgaff.

They wanted either a digital or physical experience that embodies the motion of 'mutual giving'.

The brief specifically states "Your concept should reward existing members and show non members what they are missing"

In further research I find that giffgaff want things to "sink their money into".

So those who question the funding side I can say yes it will be hard to start but once a system is going it will work due to how sponsorship works.
