Stop the usage of our 'full names and mobile numbers' being used in e-mail correspondence?

By: patman2017 | 15-10-2018 07:45

Hi folks, I have noticed in my emails that I receive from Giffgaff every time I need to renew my 'goody bag top up' I get sent a reminder first, then I get an email to say that it's been renewed. But in my emails from Giffgaff they are not just! enclosing my 'user/log in name' they are also enclosing in the top right hand corner of my e-mails my 'full mobile number'?? Of which I really do not agree with this and I feel it is a serious breach of mines and possibly everyone's privacy!? And it also could leave us vulnerable to scammers and nuisance callers ect especially with all the latest cyber attacks in the news. As my full number definitely should not be shown on my Giffgaff e-mails?.

I have already complained to Giffgaff a few months ago and they haven't done anything about it?. And they just told me I should post it on here. So therefore I would really appreciate it if anyone! else agrees with me? Then could you please help and complain with me to customer services or higher management, as I feel this has been going on for too long and it really needs to be rectified as soon as possible so our personal information and privacy is better protected in future, Many thanks!.

perhaps Giffgaff should give us the option to have phone numbers and names not shown in emails for those people who don't want them to be seen.

dear GG

It should be possible to say 'your number ending in' or similar, but this was abused when applied to credit cards when taking over Apple accounts so the idea needs to be handled with care.

I agree with you on this – displaying 'with the mobile number ending with nnn'.

Most public organisations, utilities and banks etc. only show the last 3 numbers “xxxxxxxx123”

that’s fine so GiffGaff should do the same.

Your full telephone number should not be included in any correspondence from giffgaff. This is a breach of data protection. It's the same as a credit card company including your full credit card number in emails to you. Emails are considered to be in the public domain.

If giffgaff don't resolve this, take it up with OfCom.

No, e-mails are not in the public domain nor are they considered to be. It is akin to saying one's residential address is in the public domain. No it is not.

Peoples residential address are in the public domain via the electoral roll.

You don't have to be literally on that though, you can tick the box to not be publicly listed

i like this, no full numbers should be given, you never know who's on your emails now! I've recently had a scare myself i was chucked out my emails and told someone was trying to access them lucky i manged to secure them. Banks use part post codes so surely they could use the last three digits of the number ?

I haven't notice this but perhaps username and partial number would suffice to make someone aware of which accout they credited.
