Support older users: consolidate short dial codes

By: checkincherry | 07-06-2018 16:24

Much is written on the forums about the target gg user being young and tech savvy. I've just read/replied to a query in community about helping older parents enjoy the benefits of gg. As I was writing had a thought that would make life easier for older users who want things as simple as possible.

Having just moved my parent to gg, I have helped them by entering all the different gg short dial codes into their contacts. They use these numbers as they don't check their account online without me sitting next to them and showing them how to do that. Why does there have to be a different code to find out outstanding balance, outstanding goodybag minutes, outstanding goodybag texts, time left for free gg to gg calls?

If there could be one call number and one standard reply SMS setting out all these things on one screen , it would make my parent's life a whole lot easier (and mine 'cause they wouldn't call me to check something they can easily check themselves.!)

I think it would help make gg more accessible to older users which can then be used to help market gg as a "friendly to technophobes" network not to mention simplifying the gg experience of those users who rely on NOT using the internet to manage their gg account.

I totally agree! But on a side note re older users, my parents have mobile phones but use them only when needed. Just make it easier for people who don’t have the basic skills or confidence online. People who don’t own or want a smart phone. My parents are in their 70s and I’ve had a **** of a job explaining their new tv...

I support this idea!

We do forget sometimes that not everyone are tech experts and comfortable with the navigations we provide.

Brilliant suggest

Excellent idea!

I've introduced 3 elderly people, one of whom is my dad, to Giffgaff and they're able (just) to cope with buying a voucher from a shop to top up. None of them have email or the internet and are not tech savvy. It would be brilliant if giffgaff could provide an alternative, simple method, of registering first time users who don't use/have access to the internet. I have had to register each of my friends using my own email address so they can come on board. Perhaps something like a registration/new member (including) top up voucher could be introduced to cover this area for the elderly and vulnerable?

That's a good idea and why I haven't signed my mum up.

Great idea, I'm literally on the same situation. My parents are on giffgaff, and I've had to add the check balance to their speed dial. I only help them go online, they never go online unless I'm around. So good idea for a giffgaff users, young and old. ????????????????????

As an older user I believe it when you tell me my goody bag expires at 23.59 tonight. With 45 minutes of calls left I sat down to call a friend and find I have zero minutes left at 21.30 and new goody bag has not started. Had the same problem last month. This is not ok and I am really considering finding another provider. Is this ever going to get better??

I wish if giffgaff improve the app.
