Support older users: consolidate short dial codes

Much is written on the forums about the target gg user being young and tech savvy. I've just read/replied to a query in community about helping older parents enjoy the benefits of gg. As I was writing had a thought that would make life easier for older users who want things as simple as possible.

Having just moved my parent to gg, I have helped them by entering all the different gg short dial codes into their contacts. They use these numbers as they don't check their account online without me sitting next to them and showing them how to do that. Why does there have to be a different code to find out outstanding balance, outstanding goodybag minutes, outstanding goodybag texts, time left for free gg to gg calls?

If there could be one call number and one standard reply SMS setting out all these things on one screen , it would make my parent's life a whole lot easier (and mine 'cause they wouldn't call me to check something they can easily check themselves.!)

I think it would help make gg more accessible to older users which can then be used to help market gg as a "friendly to technophobes" network not to mention simplifying the gg experience of those users who rely on NOT using the internet to manage their gg account.

not just for technophobes but anyone can forget those codes or just be out of data. Would help people so got my vote

I think there is a technical limit to how many items of information can be included in the USSD response. It isn't just a limit on the number of characters.

With the £10 goodybag now having unlimited minutes and unlimited texts, there is less need for checking the account data is all that needs monitoring.

43430 option 2 is a good free solution, and if you use a call recorder you can keep a record of what was said. The USSD message doesn't get stored like a text.

The most frequently used codes are added to contact list automatically so are simple to use. It can't be much problem to add others, if required. I'm not against this idea though so will add support.

Perhaps not the greatest idea to lump all older generation into the same category!

As one myself, I still consider myself fairly savvy and would consider this type of approach quite patronising.

No slight intended. I just know it would help my older parent whose experience was what prompted my post. Of course there will always be more/ less technically able at all ages. Judging by some of the other comments, it's not just one age group who would find this either simpler or just time-consuming saving. But apologies if you felt this was offensive to you.
