Launch VoLTE(4G calling) and VoWiFi (WiFi calling)

By: cjfarmer13 | 20-02-2018 14:40

VoLTE and VoWiFi on Giffgaff:

On O2 and other networks: pay monthly customers have access to both 4G Calling and WiFi calling.

On Three: pay as you go and pay monthly customers get 4G calling and Wifi calling

On Giffgaff: no customers get 4G Calling or WiFi calling

This needs to change; Giffgaff pay as you go customers want these services.

It would benefit Giffgaff itself by making PAYG customers move to Giffgaff for 4G Calling and WiFi calling. And also being the first network with these for PAYG customers. It would benefit members by having the ability to call over WiFi if they didn't have service and have HD calls over 4G.

It should be implemented: for one members want it, two it would be easy to implement because O2 have it and three it is good for everyone.

What needs to happen:

VoWiFi:

The O2 VoWifi Server [epdg.epc.mnc010.mcc234.pub.3gppnetwork.org] (which has multiple servers) needs to allow giffgaff numbers.

VoLTE:

Give giffgaff numbers access to VoLTE through IMS gateway

Brilliant idea for giffgaff users.

All the main networks offer both VoLTE and WiFi Calling now, BT Mobile even offer it too (despite being a MVNO using EE) and Three do it for PAYG customers as well; so there really isn't a reason for GG not to offer it anymore other than Telefonica/o2 saying no. Would make such a difference to those of us in rural areas!

Have to agree with you, it would really be a benefit to us rural users.

me too :) I have one bar when I am lucky in my house - and this would make the world of difference - otherwise have to consider switching really...

Agreed... as a new subscriber I kind of took this for granted... my mistake! Come on GiffGaff...

Such a shame this idea's stagnated giffgaff - I really wanted to join you as I like the GG ethos; but sadly due to functionality (or lack of it on the network side) it's a case of off to EE now my contract on vodafone's up :|

Is this idea being implemented soon ?

Thx.

supported. at least the vowifi should be available to gifgaff users to have access to network where less signal. also it would be useful while in london underground.

I've very very reluctantly had to change my contract to EE as we have poor signal here and need Wifi calling as more and more people call the mobile rather than the landline.

I'd be back like a shot if Giffgaff provided this service as I'd much rather be with them.

Have giffgaff given any news on this subject ? .

Almost six months since the last comment. Has this been forgotten about again?

I've been stuck in rural mid-Wales since the start of the pandemic lockdown and the signal strength is one bar if I'm lucky from the nearest O2 mast. My wife has Three and a mobile WiFi router with five bars! If we had Wi-Fi calling on giffgaff I could route calls that way.

Come on giffgaff DO SOMETHING about it. Like many users I love being with giffgaff but Three is beckoning, and unless you do something soon, I shall be waving goodbye.

id mobile has wifi calling for PAYG. Will have to change providers if GiffGaff don't add this soon.

same here. My work involves being in some remote areas where there is guest Wi-fi available in offices. I am basically out of touch for hours. Been with GG for years and now considering switching as GG don’t offer this service.

A loyal Giffgaff user, and recommender for some years, I have now moved to an area where, despite what the coverage map says, there is NO phone signal. My husband uses 3, again no phone signal, but 3 provides WiFi Calling so he’s happy. Meanwhile I cannot make nor receive calls, and most importantly in this era of double layered bank security, I cannot receive security SMS messages. I regret that I will soon have to leave Giffgaff.

PLEASE provide these basic enhancements to Giffgaff.
