2fa on account login, #OATH-TOTP

By: mikejonesey4 | 01-08-2016 12:57

I ran a search for 2fa, it returned no results.

I'm keen to see 2fa implemented on account login, there are many open source tools to assist with the setup so it should be a relativley easy task to implement on the website.

This would increase security alot, and protect whilst loggin in on possibly unsafe wifi networks.

Yes... lets get hardware key 2fa login made available as an option... I'll support that!

My mobile phone, email, and bank are amongst the most important and vulnerable personal services I use... access to my email and online bank accounts are secured with 2fa hardware... but my online Giffgaff mobile phone account still only offers a password to secure it.

Lack of 2fa as an option for logging into my GiffGaff account does concern me, one reason is that there are too many other vulnerable online logins I use, that use legacy one time passwords sent via SMS (HMRC, Online Accounting Software, most gov.uk services), and even then.. some of the hardware key 2fa logins that are available, still allow defaulting back to SMS OTP's if you don't have your key.

If someone gets hold of my mobile number... they can get hold of these services... not to mention severely disrupting my life through losing my phone number.

Well I have to suspect that like with the additional methods of removing the content lock Giffgaff are pushing all the 2FA suggestions here in "working on it"

Like I said on a previous suggestion I am happy for the option of a 2FA log in but there are plenty of members probably most that wouldn't consider it necessary.

I just wonder why Giffgaff didn't move to add a 2 factor authentication for the payforit scams as soon as the demand for it began to be voiced.

Instead untold Giffgaff customers were let down and many lost money or suffered stress or both.
