Send a pre paid SIM card to a loved one

By: davebox35 | 30-11-2014 10:22

Hi all,

How about a service to enable giff gaff members to purchase  from there account  then send a sim card to a loved one directly from giff gaff  ready set up  with credit, contact numbers, and details like turning off answer phone ?

I essentially did this anyway. Gave out 3 sims, one to my mum, one to my little sister and one to my best friend. I activated them and topped each up with £10 credit so they can give it a try without having to spend anything themselves and also take advantage of the extra £10 credit offer that was on at that time. So they had £20 balance each to spend as they want.

Would be a good idea if there was a more official way to do this since the pen pushers at head office decided to refuse giving me any payback for recruiting those three members. Obviously the sims were set up on the same phone, my phone and with the same email address so they presumed they were not genuine recruits. Didn’t even bother to inform me I had to question it when the time came round and my account was still showing £15 payback earned for 3 new recruits but under the points available this period it was zero.

Can’t really complain since an agent gave a goodwill payment in the end but it would be good if there was a way to top up gift sims without the insinuation that you are setting up false accounts for the payback. Put me right off. Was cancelling my account and get my mum, sister and best friend to do the same and go over to 3 or TPO which offer the same service but since the third agent I spoke to gave me the credit and a little extra for the trouble I’ve decided to stick with it for now.

It’s not so much the payback not being honoured that bothered me but the implied abuse of the recruit programme by someone in head office that doesn’t have a clue. Just like every other company, head office just seem to be about budgets and cutbacks, with no idea what’s going on on the front line. Half of them probably don’t even know what giffgaff is!

I like this idea, a lot! I converted my dad to giffgaff and setup my daughter recently aswel when i caved and bought her first phone, this would of been great. Not so sure on the adding details part tho, generally contacts and other such details are a personal choice and best left that way i think, though just having your own giffgaff number automatically included might be handy, means they can send their new number to you straight away :)

Did understand you to mean the initial topup would come from your airtime credit? If so, then no, as it would be open to abuse. Email and password issues might present a security risk. All in all I cannot support this idea.
