Apple Sim - iPad Mini 3, iPad air 2 and WIFI Calling - giffgaff an option?

By: diwatty | 31-10-2014 14:15

So it has been annouced the new iPads which have come from the valley which have cellular capabilites will have a new sim which is pre-installed allowing you:

" The flexibility to choose from a variety of short and long term cellular data plans from select carriers, right from your iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3."

Now currently in the UK, EE is the only partner Apple has which is working with it so far.

And now that giffgaff is recoginised i think its time giffgaff starts talking to Apple to bring these devices to the best mobile network in the UK.

That brings me on to my next point WIFI calling, Would it be possible for giffgaff to work with Apple to bring this to our network? WIFI calling only currently works on (you guessed it) EE. If we could get this working on our network this would be a huge leap forward in the Apple world and could make us a game changer in the UK Mobile Carrier market for Apple Devices.

WIFI calling is a great idea using whatsapp or skype is good if you want to make a call but if people are trying to call you this is where they fail, using WIFI calling would streamline the process without the person on the other side needing the right app

Im almost lost for words that giffgaff do not have this - they chose not to have it saying "use whatsapp etc" the technology already exsists so it cant be that hard to enable this, charge £1pm extra and see how many people opt for it ;)

I have just moved into an area where mobile coverage is almost non existent. It feels like I've gone back to the 80's. And Giffgaff signal is the worst reception here.

Having still refused to go down the Wifi calling route since your post in 2014 I'm probably going to have to change network.

Come on Giffgaff get with the program!

your point about WiFi calling was a good prediction as it now is coming to be quite the issue and deal breaker for some, the apple tech is popular among the devotes of jobs but for me it is well left in the valley to await the"big one"

Just left 3 who offered it. iPhone to iPhone is fine with iMessage and calls over wifi. You don’t need an app for all iphones newer tha 5s just need GG to make it available. I would support this I. left 3 because I knew O2 coverage was better in the main locations I use but still not great. Also GG allow tethering and provide 4G when roaming in Europe

Works on Three too. Makes them a better bet for work phone, even though Giffgaff nicer!
