free voicemail with or without credit

i think we should receive our voicemails free with or without credit as long as you have topped up in the last 3 months, there is nothing more frustrating than missing a call and you have used up all your mins, i think this could give giffgaff another edge again in the market.

If you want to disable voicemail, it is up to you. You have control on your settings; you can always set your voicemail message to request people to send you a SMS if you are unable to retrieve your voicemail (dialling 443); if you have ANY Goodybag, your unlimited UK minutes allow you to retrieve your voicemails!

Vkkifarrell, if you have a Goodybag, you are not charged for accessing Voicemail by dialling 443 - it is included in your Goodybag.

if you have just PAYG with giffgaff, you are charged 8p for accessing Voicemail, no matter how many messages are waiting for you. This is a flat rate, not a ‘per minute’ rate

yes I agree voicemail is a necessity

Do you mean that FREE voicemail is a necessity? I don’t often use voicemail, either to communicate or to receive messages, but I got used to NOT using voicemail since sending a text can give more clarity, and Orange used to charge per minute for retrieval (using your credit quickly). Although giffgaff are cheaper (either charging 8p/one-Goodybag-minute per access to all voicemails available) old habits die hard.

Why "not for us"?!

Probably because it potentially could be abused as someone has identified in the comments. However I agree that an explanation should have been given (could even have an explanation which is now lost in the comments).
