Make the minimum top-up £5

By: saadiyahk | 06-05-2014 13:47

Hi, this is a little idea.
The minimum top up is £10 so maybe giffgaff should let us top up £5. I'm a light user and don't need much of anything. So being able to top up £5 would be nice.

I think it be too costly for gg to run. The cost be passed to us.

Most supermarkets do accept even small payments, almost all, even small shops accept payments above £5 and they do not complain that it is not costs effective, on eBay/amazon you can buy things online for less than £1 without any problem delivered to your home for free. I just believe that I should be able to top up as little or as much as I need/want.

I dont think it would be cost effective to top up as little as £1, I think £5 is a resonable min topup so have already supported this idea : https://labs.giffgaff.com/idea/16271671

It's not cost effective I am afraid. Giffgaff have to pay the card companies and retailers a fee each time. But ping me a quid could work instead.

I agree, not necessarily because of budget but because in principle you should get change.

I mean, if you go the supermarket and hand over a £10 note for £ 8 of groceries and they said, "sorry, we don't give change, our minimum take is £ 10" you would never go back.  Ok, so they kind of say "but we will keep the change for you but only to be used in this shop" but that is still fairly rubbish.

I'm on the last day of a holiday in France and I have 40p of credit left. I would really love to be able to get £5 of credit

I very rarely use my phone and £10 lasts me at least 6 months, only use wifi on it too so the 3 month free calls expire well before my airtime, question is would £5 come with 3months or 6 weeks free giffgaff to giffgaff calls?

but must admit a £5 option would be handy in times of need

I think this is something many want but as far as I know  its not cost effective to process smaller payments.  I will support all the same, you never know.
