Topup via PayPal

By: peter | 19-04-2010 22:55

Hello,

There was the problem with the topups and it has made me think, why not introduce Topups by PayPal?

What do you think?

Kudos if you like.

This has been discussed many a time and giffgaff seem a little unsure - my concern would be the charge made payable to the customer for the service as paypal charge you.

This idea was suggested in 2012 https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Archive-Ideas/Easier-Ways-to-Top-Up/idi-p/4927018

I have suggested it a couple of times before.

Other people have suggested it.

Giffgaff said they were considering it in May, so I suppose it does take a time to investigate costings / volumes etc. .... a long time.

Surely the comments about the extra cost are red herrings, only when one pays using paypal should one incurr an extra cost. Paying by credit / debit card would stay as it is. It would be the choice of the member which payment method to use, the cost would not be spread across other members.

I shall re-iterate one of the major advantages, to me, of allowing paypal.

I use Giffgaff, I don't make many phone calls so I only have my giffgaff number even though I am abroad most of the time.

I have both UK and foreign bank accounts. My UK bank account is registered to a foreign address. I can not top up because the method used currently will only allow a UK address. I could use my paypal account to pay, and I could also choose which bank account the payment comes from.

A minor advantage, which may appeal to others, is that when I pay by card I have to have the card with me (or remember which cv code for the registered card), I can remember my paypal log-in details far more easily and I do not have to hunt about in another room for the registered card.

It would be useful if someone loses a card - they could use paypal to top up their phone so they can tell the bank of the loss!

This is a simple idea, it would make giffgaff more flexible, the cost would be born by the paypal user. So far I have seen no comments to make this idea less than excellent.

This is a must! My dad always uses PayPal but when it gets to giffgaff without having PayPal services, he finds it very difficult

Paypal would be a good add on to a payment making option, so if you top up via paypal say £10 goodybag then gg would end up with having to pay the fees. not practical for them.

So in the case of a £10 goodybag the member would pay the fees on the £10 goodybag, so for example the member would have to add the exra 25pence not giffgaff to cover the fees.
